Dropping items on the ground

How to discard, what the server refuses to discard and how long a dropped item stays on the ground.

Sometimes the inventory fills up in the middle of the hunt and you need to make room. Dropping on the ground is the quick way — and the only irreversible one.

How to drop#

Drag the item from the inventory outside of any panel and release. The item falls next to you.

Before releasing, the game may ask:

  • Common item (potion, cheap jewel, piece with nothing) — drops straight away.
  • Item with some value — opens the confirmation "Drop on the ground? Any player can pick it up", with the Cancel and Drop buttons.

You need to unequip first: the server refuses to discard something that is on the character.

What cannot be thrown away#

This is a safeguard that Acheron World adds on top of the original MU. Four types of item simply cannot be discarded:

ItemReason
With socketrare and irreplaceable
Ancientsame
Excellentsame
+7 or aboveit cost too many jewels

If you try, the chat replies "Cannot throw away: excellent item" (or the matching reason) and nothing happens.

This exists to prevent the classic MU tragedy: dragging the wrong weapon in the middle of a fight and watching months of equipment vanish on the ground. If you really want to get rid of one of these items, sell it to an NPC, put it in your personal shop or trade it in a trade.

Items in a trade or listed in your personal shop are also locked: "Item in trade/sale".

What happens to a dropped item#

  • It stays visible on the ground, with its name in gold, for any player.
  • Anyone can pick it up. There is no ownership or reservation time.
  • It disappears by itself after two minutes.

In other words: dropping on the ground is not "storing outside the inventory". Either you pick it back up in seconds, or someone picks it up, or it evaporates.

Picking up from the ground#

Click the item. If it is within 2.2 tiles, you pick it up right away; if it's farther, the character walks there and picks it up on arrival.

Auto-hunt and MU Helper pick up on their own, according to the filter you set — and walk to the item within the chosen pickup radius.

Alternatives to discarding#

  • Sell all, at the bottom of the inventory, converts all loose equipment into zen. It doesn't touch jewels, potions or quest items — you can click without fear.
  • Vault stores 8 × 15 spaces and zen.
  • Personal shop and global market turn high-level junk into another player's money.
  • Fusing at Elpis turns useless excellent equipment into Higher refining stone. See Jewel of Harmony.
