Sockets and spheres
Where a socket item drops, which elements each piece accepts and what blocks filling them today.
An item with socket has empty sockets — from 1 to 5 — that accept Seed Spheres. Each fitted sphere gives its own option, and certain combinations of elements in a specific order give an extra bonus. It's MU's deepest customization path.
The name of an item with socket appears in purple.
Where socket items drop#
Only on six maps:
- Raklion 1 and Raklion 2
- Urk Montain
- Ferea
- Nars
- Nixie Lake
Outside them, no item is born with a socket.
How many sockets#
The number is rolled on drop:
| Item | 1 socket | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Two-handed weapon | 80% | 10% | 7% | 2.5% | 0.5% |
| Everything else | 84% | 15.5% | 0.5% | — | — |
The real cap still depends on the item: each piece has its own maximum, and the roll is limited by it. Only a handful of weapons accept five sockets; most sets accept three.
Two warnings#
- An excellent item never gets a socket. They are separate paths: either green or purple.
- An item with socket does not accept Jewel of Harmony.
Which items accept socket#
Among those that exist on the server:
- Weapons and shields: Flameberge, Sword Breaker, Rune Bastard Sword, Frost Mace, Absolute Scepter, Deadly Staff, Inberial Staff, Merlin Stick, Crimson Glory, Salamander Shield, Frost Barrier, Guardian Shield, and the Dark Stinger (the only one with 5 sockets).
- Sets: Titan, Brave, Phantom, Destroy, Seraphim, Divine, Royal, Hades and Queen.
The elements#
Each socket accepts spheres of certain elements, and the piece decides which:
| Piece type | Accepts |
|---|---|
| Weapons and staves | Fire, Ice, Lightning |
| Armors and shields | Water, Wind, Earth |
The same option cannot repeat on the same item.
What each element gives#
The spheres come in five levels — Mono, Di, Tri, Tetra and Penta — and the value goes up with them. The values below are for Penta, the best level:
Fire (weapons) — damage per level, +11 attack speed, +50 minimum damage, +35 maximum damage, +35 damage.
Ice (weapons) — heal on kill, recover mana on kill, +60 skill damage, +40 hit rate.
Lightning (weapons) — +40 excellent damage, +14% excellent hit rate, +50 crit damage, +12% crit rate.
Water (armors) — +14% defense rate, +42 defense, +5 shield reduction, +8 damage reduction, +9% reflection.
Wind (armors) — +20 life regeneration, +8% max life, +8% max mana, +35 mana regeneration, +50 stamina, +15 stamina regeneration.
Earth (armors) — +38 vitality.
Two options listed in the original table have no effect on this server: stamina consumption reduction and item durability.
Combination bonus#
If you fit three spheres in the right order, you get an extra bonus:
| Piece | Order | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Weapons | Fire, Lightning, Ice | +11 damage |
| Weapons | Lightning, Ice, Fire | +11 skill damage |
| Staves | Fire, Lightning, Ice | +5 damage |
| Staves | Lightning, Ice, Fire | +11 skill damage |
| Armors | Water, Earth, Wind | +24 defense |
| Armors | Earth, Wind, Water | +29 max life |
The order is the socket order, not the order you fitted them. Plan ahead.
Set bonus#
Counting all sockets across your 12 equipment pieces:
| Bonus | Requires |
|---|---|
| +3% double hit | at least 1 socket of each of the 6 elements |
| +1% ignore defense | 1 Fire, 3 Water, 1 Ice, 3 Wind, 1 Lightning and 2 Earth — 11 sockets |
Seed Sphere level 6 to 10#
Since October 9, 2026 spheres go past Penta: Hexa, Hepta, Octa, Ennea and Deca (levels 6 to 10, from Season 11). The option value keeps rising — Fire's minimum damage, for example, goes from +50 at Penta to +81 at Deca.
They do not drop: you upgrade the sphere in the Chaos Machine, socket tab, recipe Seed Sphere: level up:
| From → to | Sphere Upgrade Rune | Zen | Chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mono → Di | 4 | 10 million | 90% |
| Di → Tri, Tri → Tetra, Tetra → Penta | 5 | 13 to 19 million | 89% |
| Penta → Hexa | 6 | 22 million | 88% |
| Hexa → Hepta, Hepta → Octa | 7 and 8 | 25 and 28 million | 88% |
| Octa → Ennea, Ennea → Deca | 9 and 10 | 31 and 34 million | 87% |
- Another sphere of the same level, of any element, goes in too: it is consumed. The upgraded one keeps its element and option.
- If it fails, both spheres and the runes are lost.
- The Sphere Upgrade Rune drops from monsters on the master maps and is a prize of the hard round of Scramble Words.
Fitting and removing#
At the Refinery, with Osbourne or Jerridon, in Aida (78, 13) and (86, 13):
| Action | Cost | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| Fit sphere | 1,000,000 zen + 1 Jewel of Chaos + 1 Jewel of Creation | 100% |
| Remove sphere | 1,000,000 zen | 100% — but the sphere is destroyed |
Fitting never fails. Removing doesn't either, but you lose the sphere: only remove to swap it for something better.
Some texts inside the game still say Osbourne and Jerridon are in Crywolf. They are in Aida.
Today's problem#
Seed Spheres are not obtainable right now. They are created at the Chaos Machine from a Seed, and the Seed recipe requires an ancient item — which doesn't exist on the server yet.
In other words: you can get items with empty sockets normally, but you can't fill them. Keep the good pieces that drop with socket — when the ancient system is turned on, they will be worth a lot.
Loose Mono, Di and Tri spheres drop from monsters normally; Tetra and Penta have no source today.
