Item types and slots

The 16 item categories, the 12 equipment slots and how the inventory counts space.

Every item in the game belongs to a category, and it is the category that decides where it goes, what it does and which upgrades it accepts.

The 12 slots#

The inventory paper doll has twelve positions:

[Mount]    [Helm]   [Wings]
[Weapon]   [Chest]  [Shield]
[Gloves]   [Pants]  [Boots]
      [Amulet] [Ring] [Ring]

Details that matter:

  • Two rings. If you equip into an occupied slot, the item goes to the other free ring.
  • The mount does not take a slot. Pets and mounts stay in the inventory and are summoned with the right button. See pets and mounts.
  • The left hand takes a shield — or, on the Dark Lord, the Dark Raven.
  • Bows and crossbows require arrows or bolts in the inventory to shoot. Each shot uses one unit.

Requirements#

Each piece of equipment requires level and attributes. The tooltip shows everything in green if you meet them and in red if you don't. It also lists the classes that can use it — a lot of gear is exclusive.

Equipping an item you don't meet simply doesn't work.

Inventory space#

The inventory has 8 columns by 8 rows = 64 spaces, across two pages. But each item takes its real size:

  • a jewel or potion takes 1 space;
  • a helm takes 2 × 2 = 4 spaces;
  • a large sword or a set of wings can take 2 × 3 or more.

In other words: you never carry 128 items. In practice, a character in the field carries around 30 pieces. Keep the rest in the vault.

When buying or receiving something, if there is no free area of the right size, the operation is refused with "Inventory full" — and nothing is charged.

The name color#

The tooltip paints the name according to what the item has:

ColorMeans
Purplehas socket
Greenis excellent
Strong blue+9 or higher
Light blue+5 to +8
Goldcommon

A purple or green item is worth far more on the global market than a gold one with the same name.

Protected items#

Items with socket, ancient, excellent or +7 and above cannot be thrown away. See dropping items on the ground.
