Chaos Castle

Free-for-all in a collapsing arena — one survives, and only they take anything.

Chaos Castle is the cruelest event on the server and the only one where there are no friends. Ten players and almost a hundred monsters enter a closed arena. The floor starts collapsing from the edges toward the center. Whoever is still standing when nobody else is left wins.

When it happens#

Twelve times a day, on the odd hours: 01:00, 03:00, 05:00, and so on until 23:00.

Registration opens 5 minutes before. There is room for 10 players per floor and the round lasts 10 minutes.

How to join#

Click Join in the panel when it shows OPEN. You don't need Armor of Guardsman, zen or an NPC.

The same daily entry limit as Blood Castle and Devil Square applies (the three combined; more with VIP), and characters with 4 or more PK kills can't enter.

The rules#

Free-for-all#

While registration is open, the arena is still a safe zone. When the round starts, it becomes a battlefield, and inside Chaos Castle PvP is completely free:

  • party doesn't protect anyone — you can and will kill your own group;
  • buffs only work on yourself;
  • killing doesn't generate PK;
  • player-versus-player damage is halved, as in the original MU. Against monsters, damage is normal.

Dead monsters don't come back#

The map starts with 100 minus the number of players monsters alive. When one dies, it doesn't respawn. The arena empties out, and that's what triggers the collapse.

The floor collapses#

Two holes in the center exist from the start. Then, as the total of living beings (players plus monsters) drops, the floor collapses from the edges inward, in rings:

Total aliveWhat happens
40 or lessfirst ring collapses
30 or lesssecond ring
20 or lessthird ring

The holes pile up and show on your screen. A player who steps on a hole falls and dies instantly. Around the arena is the void: anyone who ends up outside it falls too.

Monsters don't fall. If the floor disappears under one, it is moved to the nearest solid ground — monsters stay in the arena until someone kills them. An item left on top of a hole disappears.

You have a 5-second grace period at the start before any check.

Notice what that means: killing monsters shrinks the arena. If you're fragile, killing too fast pushes you into a small space with the strong opponents.

Monsters explode#

Half of the monsters explode when they die. The blast throws anyone within 3 tiles of it — the closer you are, the farther you fly, up to about 5 tiles — and doesn't care where you land: anyone thrown into a hole or out of the arena dies the next second.

With the arena shrinking, this becomes the event's most treacherous weapon: killing a monster next to an opponent at the edge of a hole can settle the fight for you.

How to win#

With exactly one player alive and no monsters alive.

Two variations:

  • If everyone dies, nobody wins.
  • If time runs out with monsters still alive, there is no winner. If it runs out with no monsters but several players, whoever has more points wins.

The reward#

Here's the hard part: only the winner gets anything. Whoever dies leaves empty-handed.

Experience is calculated from what you did:

(players killed × value per player) + (monsters killed × value per monster)

FloorPer player killedPer monster killed
11,000500
21,500100
32,0001,500
42,5002,000
53,0002,500
63,5003,000

The winner never takes less than the value of one killed player, even without killing anyone.

Besides the experience, the winner takes a guaranteed Rare jewel and a 15% chance of an Epic, delivered to the Gremory Case — see Bosses, invasions and events. There is no zen prize.

Strategy#

  • Don't join a party thinking it helps. It doesn't. You'll kill each other.
  • Let the others clear the monsters. Every dead monster brings the collapse closer, and whoever kills more spends more potions. Surviving matters more than scoring.
  • But don't let the arena empty out without scoring, because the reward is per kill.
  • Stay away from the edges from the start. The first ring to fall is the outer one.
  • Push the others into the holes. Choose where to fight and use the explosions: a monster that dies next to an opponent at the edge of a hole can throw them in.
  • Don't stand right next to a monster someone else is killing, especially near the edge. The explosion might be yours.
  • Fill your bag with potions. Ten minutes of free-for-all burns through a lot.
  • Area spells are valuable here: they hit monsters and players at the same time.
