Levels and experience

The curve up to level 400 (about 12 hours of hunting), the penalty for hunting weak monsters and all the bonuses that stack.

The maximum level is 400. After that, experience starts feeding the Master Level, which goes up to 600 — the total level reaches 1000 (400 + 600), with 1 master point per Master Level — going from 401 to 1000 takes at least 30 days, even at the fastest pace (experience and play time). Each level gives 5 attribute points — and only that: leveling up gives no cash and no pass points. At 400 you can Reset as many times as you want.

One thing to know right away: leveling up doesn't heal you. Max health and mana increase, but the current values stay where they were. Only the shield (SD) comes back full.

The curve#

The curve here is a time curve: first we set how long each level should take, and its experience comes from that. The typical player — solo, no VIP, on a weekday, no night or weather bonus, killing 900 monsters per hour on the map for their level — reaches 400 in about 12 hours:

RangeMinutes per levelTime in the rangeTotalWith VIP 20VIP 20 + weekend
1 → 500.35 → 0.7026 min26 min13 min6 min
50 → 1000.71 → 1.0644 min1 h 1035 min17 min
100 → 1501.07 → 1.431 h 022 h 121 h 0633 min
150 → 2001.44 → 1.791 h 213 h 331 h 4653 min
200 → 2501.80 → 2.161 h 395 h 122 h 361 h 18
250 → 3002.16 → 2.521 h 577 h 093 h 351 h 47
300 → 3502.53 → 2.892 h 159 h 254 h 422 h 21
350 → 4002.89 → 3.252 h 3411 h 585 h 593 h 00

About 20 seconds per level at the start, 1 minute at level 100, 1.8 at 200, 2.5 at 300 and 3.3 at 399. A level never takes less time than the one before it; each level's experience, on the other hand, goes up in steps, because it follows the monster you hunt in each range. The full numbers — and the time up to level 1000, counting Master Level — are in experience and play time, generated from the same math the server uses.

The daily missions pay experience in minutes of hunting at your level and shorten this a little.

How much each monster gives#

The math starts from the monster's level, and monsters of level 65 or higher get an extra bonus:

Monster levelBase experience
10145
30687
501,562
652,457
803,900
1006,332
1209,350
14714,347

The penalty for hunting weak monsters#

This is the rule most people ignore, and the most important of all:

If the monster is 10 or more levels below you, its experience is cut, and the cut grows the bigger the difference is.

In practice:

SituationNormal expExp with penalty
Skeleton (19) against a level 100 player347100
Gorgon (50) against a level 200 player1,562468
Great Drakan (100) against a level 400 player6,3322,556

In other words: going back to an easy map to kill fast is almost always worse than staying in a hard map killing slowly. Hunt where the monsters are at your level, or even a bit above.

As long as the monster is up to 10 levels below you, there's no penalty at all — that's the comfortable range.

How experience is split#

You get experience proportional to the damage you dealt: hitting 50% of a monster's health gives you 50% of its experience. Whoever landed the final blow gets no advantage.

In a party, experience turns into a pool with +20%, split among the living members within 25 tiles, proportional to each one's level.

The multipliers#

They all add up with each other, on top of the base value:

SourceBonus
VIP+5% per level (up to +100%)
Guild+2% per level (up to +20%)
Night and weatherfrom +0% to +35%
Gens rankup to +6%
Devil Square and Blood Castleevery monster is worth 4× (DS) / 3× (BC) a monster from the typical spot for your level

A character with VIP 20, guild 10 and a night storm is at +155% — two and a half times the experience of someone with nothing.

On top of all that, the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) doubles experience. With just VIP 20 on a weekend, the 12 hours to 400 become about 3 hours.

Besides that, 2% of all the exp you earn becomes experience for your guild. It doesn't come out of your pocket.

Offline progress#

Were you offline for more than 5 minutes? When you log in you get an estimate of experience and zen for the time away, capped at 8 hours.

The calculation uses the average level of the monsters in the map where you logged out, at three kills per minute. So: log out in the hardest map you can handle, not in town. The difference is huge.

Reset#

Reset is turned off for now. At level 400 you keep going through the Master Level. The rules below apply when it is turned back on.

At level 400 you can Reset — for free and with no limit on Resets: with the button on the character sheet (C key), the ⭐ that shows up on the buff bar or with /reset (/reset info shows how many points the next one gives). With VIP, the MU Helper has automatic Reset: hit 400 and it resets by itself.

What happens:

  • you go back to level 1, with zero experience, and to Lorencia;
  • your attributes go back to your class's starting values and you get 25 free points per Reset: 25 on the 1st, 50 on the 2nd, 75 on the 3rd, and so on. Everything that was spent or free goes away — including points from quests, missions and the pass;
  • on the way up, each level gives the usual 5 points: at 400 after the 1st Reset you have 25 + 1,995 = 2,020 points; after the 2nd, 2,045;
  • your Master Level stays whole — level, points and skills — and works again once you reach 400 again;
  • items stay equipped; whatever you can't use yet becomes inactive (the requirement shows in red) until you meet the requirement again. Nothing drops to the ground;
  • the Reset gives no Cash (nor does the climb back up).

Inside an event (Devil Square, Blood Castle…) the Reset waits until you leave.
