Death and resurrection
Five seconds, full heal, and you lose absolutely nothing.
Dying in Acheron World is cheap. This is one of the most important differences from classic MU, and it changes the way you play.
What you lose#
Nothing.
- No experience.
- No zen.
- No item — neither equipped nor in your inventory.
- No durability.
- There is no resurrection fee.
This also applies to dying in PvP and to dying as a PK. The item loss system exists in the code, but it is turned off.
What you lose is time and all your buffs.
What happens#
- The screen darkens with the warning "YOU DIED".
- After 5 seconds, you respawn.
- You come back with full health, mana, shield and stamina.
- All buffs and debuffs drop.
- Auto-hunt is turned off — the character respawns standing still.
- The monsters that were chasing you lose their target.
Where you respawn#
In the safe zone of the map where you died. If the map has no safe zone, the game uses a destination table:
| Died in | Returns to |
|---|---|
| Dungeon | Lorencia |
| Icarus | Devias |
| Kalima 1 to 7 | Lorencia |
| Balgass Refuge | Balgass Barracks |
| Santa Town | Devias |
| Vulcanus | Kanturu Remain |
| Duel Arena | Vulcanus |
| Doppelganger | Elbeland |
| Imperial Fortress | Devias |
| Deep Dungeon, Kubera Mine | Lorencia |
| Loren Market, Nars, TvT, Swamp of Darkness | the map itself |
Dying inside an event removes you from the event and sends you to the exit city. There is no way back — the round is over for you. See the page of each event.
While you are dead#
- Other players see your fallen body until you respawn.
- You cannot travel, trade or open most windows.
- Some screens remain accessible: the friends list, the mail and the status panels of the systems.
What this changes in the game#
Since dying costs nothing, the right thing is to play at the limit:
- Hunt on a map above your comfort level. Dying every now and then is cheaper than hunting on an easy map and taking the experience penalty per level.
- Don't run from PvP for fear of losing something. You lose nothing. The only cost is the walk back.
- Join events even if you are not at the ideal level. The worst that happens is you leave earlier.
The only place where dying really hurts is inside a single-round event — Blood Castle, Chaos Castle, Illusion Temple — because there you lose that round's reward.
Practical precautions#
- Repair your equipment before leaving. A broken weapon in the middle of the hunt costs more time than a death. See durability and repair.
- Log out on a hard map. Offline progress uses the average level of the monsters on the map where you logged out.
- Set up the auto potion in hunting. It drinks on its own below 45% health and prevents most silly deaths.
