Durability and repair

How equipment wears down, when it starts performing worse, what happens when it breaks and how much fixing it costs.

Every piece of equipment has a durability bar that drops with use. When it hits zero, the item stops working — the weapon deals no damage, the armor gives no defense — and the chat warns you: "(name) broke (durability 0)".

The item does not disappear. Just repair it.

The item performs worse before it breaks#

Don't wait for zero: below half, the item is already weaker. The item's damage, defense and defense rate are multiplied like this:

Durability leftThe item performs at
50% or more100%
below 50%80%
below 40%70%
below 30%60%
below 20%50%
0nothing — it broke

The tooltip shows the current and maximum durability.

How wear happens#

  • The weapon: each of your hits that deals damage has a 5% chance of taking 1 point from it — on average, 1 point every 20 hits. The wear goes to the right-hand weapon; if there is no weapon there, to the left-hand one.
  • Defense: each hit with damage you take has a 5% chance of taking 1 point from a randomly chosen piece among shield, helm, armor, pants, gloves, boots, wings, pet and pendant. Rings don't wear down.
  • Arrows and bolts: durability is the quantity. Each shot spends one unit, and the pack disappears when it runs out.

It applies against monsters and against players. The durability nodes of the Master Level tree make the loss happen less often.

In practice: whoever hits a lot sees the weapon go down first; whoever takes a lot of hits sees the whole set go down together, little by little.

Repairing#

Any vendor NPC repairs. Open their shop and use the 🔧 Repair equipment button at the bottom. You need to be within 6 tiles.

Repair is all at once: it fixes your whole inventory and all your equipment, and charges a single price.

The price#

The cost of each piece is proportional to how much durability is missing and to the item's value:

0.022 × (item value)^0.8 × fraction of durability missing

rounded up, at least 1 zen per piece. The item value is the shop price calculated by the item's level, with its +N, Luck, Skill, additional option and excellent.

Some examples, repairing from zero to full durability, without VIP:

ItemFull repair
Short Sword +022
Leather Armor +044
Plate Armor +61,049
Dragon Armor +9 with Luck and +8 option2,731
Great Dragon Armor +95,657
Wings of Dragon +97,350

Two practical consequences:

  1. Repairing early or late costs the same in total, because the price is proportional to what is missing. Repair whenever you pass through a town — and remember that below 50% the item already performs worse.
  2. The cost rises with your gear, but slowly. The server was calibrated so repair stays between 6% and 15% of what you earn per hour hunting on a map of your level, with gear of that level. See zen.

The VIP discount#

VIP gives 2.5% off per level on the total, up to 50% at VIP 20. The discount only applies with an active subscription.

Tips#

  • Repair before entering an event. Blood Castle, Devil Square and Chaos Castle have no NPC inside, and a weapon that breaks mid-event loses the race.
  • Repair before turning on auto-hunt. Your character doesn't go to town on its own, and if the weapon breaks it keeps hitting with no damage until you come back.
  • If you only have one good weapon, carry a spare. It weighs little and saves the session.
  • The Dark Lord's pets have their own durability and repair, with different rules and much more expensive. See pets and mounts.
